Blending two images

Hey everyone,

I started working on a boxart project today and found blending two images the way I want nothing more than a hassle. What I tried is to blend them in a way where both of them blend into eachother in such a way that the portions slightly faded away due to the blending in each picture sort of over-take the other picture. But, to make things simple, I want them to blend with eachother. Not fade into eachother. Note that I want the ends of both picture to slightly overlap eachother so that when blended, they keep a whirl-whoop like look (if that makes any sense.)

Anyways, here's the link to the two pics as they are rather large for attachment sizes:

Tips are welcome and attempts which I can download (in original picture size) are more than welcome and are what I'm looking for as I can study the technique on them more thoroughly. Oh, and remember to keep the blue pic on the left and the black/red one on the right side in final pic. Thanks in advance. :)

I really have no idea what you mean. And no, you're right, whirl-whoop means nothing to me. Is that link to the images you are working with? and what parts do you want to use to put together -- if that is what you want.

I see iDad worked on it. I hope he got it for you.

Whirlpool?
Ouch. Seems like my failure in expressing what was in my head startled everybody who replied. Never mind what I said in detail, it's now basically a request to blend the images together in such a way that the ends that will blend with eachother fade into eachother. I like iDad's attempt but, the pics are place incorrectly:

Plus, the black pic seems awfully squished i.e. reduced the width to the point where his head looks malformed. Though, it is still near what I was looking for.

@Paul: Looks like a "whirl-pool" but isn't what I had in head. Yes, I know, my choice of vocabulary can absolutely suck at times.

Yes. Those are the images I'm trying to blend together.
All in all, iDad's try is what I'm looking for but, when the pics are placed in their correct areas (blue left, black right,) what I'm looking for is for them to fade into eachother such that their fists over-lap eachother. Basically, the two pics should be overlapping eachother partially so that when blended, their overlapped body parts (fists in this case) are fadedly seen in the opposing picture. Basically, just left your creativity rip and some tips if you can. Oh, and again, remember the order of the pics and the original size will be appreciated (2560x1600 + 2560x1600 or slightly smaller in width as they will partially overlap eachother.) Thanks for taking the time to read and try to understand my jibrish. :)

Sorry reminded me of my old megadrive days so wanted to see if I could create the text lol this is what I got
I confess I used Dataflows image

Dataflow pretty much nailed it. Paul's attempt is really good as well despite the stretching problem happening again in the same fashion as iDad did lol. Though I must admit that you've done a better job in colliding the fists of the two images together. Dataflow, any chance you have the full size or can whip it in full size? Maybe some insight in how you done that will be more than just a treat to follow along. :)

@Hoogle: No time like the old times. Happy camping mate!

EDIT: Never mind, I've managed to make something satisfying enough. I'm too lazy to resize it and upload it right now so, all I'll tell you guys is that it looks highly similar if not 100% the same as Dataflow's except, mine's at 3780x1600 resolution. All it took was some careful placing and layermask gradient-fading. Easy as cake.
