Blending Help

So based on the attached photo... I want to blend these two pictures, picture of band members with paper texture, and I want it to blend nicely in the middle. Im assuming opacity has something to do with this process but I cannot for the life of me get a good blend. Id like the two pictures to look like they flow right into each other. Any ideas gurus?

The area between man and woman on her left side is too dark it's going to make it look funky
 
Try numerous blending modes but I think the black area is not going to look right, you could select around those areas the black area where the shirts meet and keep that from the blend
 
As others have said, this is a really tough photo for the effect you want to make. I played with it a bit and got this. No idea if it's anything like what you want. But I don't think you're going to get a decent blend with as Paul said, all the black, not to mention the range of light and dark.
