Black turns solarised grey on printing

Hi,

CS6 on imac and canon MG6150 printer.
When I print a photo with areas of black the result looks like the black has
been solarized and it prints out as a dirty grey with black edges.
I think I must have some setting wrong.
Have cleaned the printer and spent hours on combinations of solutions.
No luck so far.

Any suggestions please.

The 1st thing to do is to figure out if the problem is in the file you are trying to print or is a problem with the printer. Since it seems like you are printing from one of the applications within the CS6 family, probably the quickest and easiest way to make this determination is for you to post a psd, ai, or whatever type of Adobe file exhibits this problem and we'll have a look at it.

At this point, don't bother trying to print the same file from different software or do any of the huge number of other tests one can imagine -- just send a file that's giving you trouble.

Tom

PS - The forum file upload software won't upload some file types, so if it doesn't accept yours, just zip it, and upload the zipped version. Also, there is (probably) no need to upload some huge, high resolution, multi-layer problem. Just a small crop of a flattened version of the file will be enough, so long as you are absolutely sure that file prints in the way you described.

Thanks Tom

This is the flattened and saved jpeg image from CS6.
If it prints out good for you it must be my printer or its settings I reckon.

Mmmm not sure if this is the way to upload.
Cant see an alternative.

With regards to uploading PSD's ... there seems to be a glitch . After clicking the upload, it gives an error message after uploading a file.....

name.psd : Image resize failed due to your image library not having support for this file type.

Simply CLOSE the window and post your reply. Your psd or file will appear in your post.

I'll have a look at the forum settings .

Your jpg looks absolutely fine to me, but unless you load that specific jpg file back into PS and print from it, unfortunately, this JPG tells me almost nothing. Note that what I just described is different from printing from a PSD file and then, later, running off a JPG for us to inspect. Assuming that you do use PS, *that's* why I asked you to post your PSD file, not a jpg.

Realize that I don't even know if you use Photoshop, so, most importantly, if you don't print from within PS, what software do you use to print your images? If you do, which version? If so, do you print from within PS, or do you use some other program to drive that printer, for example, a printing utility that came bundled with your printer?

Basically, to help you, you to describe your workflow, end-to-end, *exactly*.

Tom

PS - Ahh. Never mind the above message. I only saw your JPG and was typing when you were posting your psd. I'll have a look at it.

Err ... I can open your PSD file, and it looks very much like the JPG you posted, but when I attempt to look at the printer properties it crashes PS (CS6) on my machine. That hardly ever happens, so I suspect something odd must be going on with that file. Unfortunately, without the ability to look at the file in more depth, I can't help very much. Perhaps someone else can open it and inspect the settings and properties.

Sorry,

T

I think you are right.
CS6 crashed a few times for me also.
Something not good.
Will start over.
Thanks

Just FYI. I downloaded the PS file and I see nothing wrong with it either. My question would be what brand/model printer are you trying to print with? What kind of paper and do you have a profile for your paper? Sounds like a mis-match of some type.
