I've been tasked to design a Billboard Ad for a friend of mines company. I already have a design in mind, but I don't know where to start. How should I set it up, what DPI, and all that jazz.

Does anyone know how to set up a document to have it made into a Billboard Ad...or where I could find information on how to set it up...thanks in advance for any help.

To begin, I wouldn't be designing a billboard ad in photoshop. unless you plan on working at about 12,000 ppi. Illustrator is the application of choice for such projects because the image will be completely scalable. Then check with the printer to see what kind files they want. if they accept a single document (.ai file or .eps ) and or PDF. They should have the software to output the file any way they want for their presses so you shouldn't have to be concerned with sectioning or slicing. If you have to slice it, then you can do that with In Design or Quark. Again, the printer can provide the specs on that. But if the printer is up to speed, technically, a complete single document should suffice.

Cool...well actually...their "Billboard" was nothing more then 6ft by 25ft vinyl sign...so I don't know if that changes anything on the setup...

I'd contact the people who will evently print/produce the final sign and find out from them what artwork specification they require and work from there. There's no point spending ages on a design if it can't be reproduced.
