Back Alley Vector Illustration

Hey, that's really nice work. Is it for a specific project or just an idea you felt like developing? I am new to Illustrator since the CC went live, and am currently working my through one of the Lynda.com titles for it. Early days bu it looks like some cool software.

Thanks Trev...

I used a photo for reference, then built all the shapes up in Ai, took forever lol. I haven't really made many illustrations, so I intend to get busy with it lol.

Thanks for your comment.

Great work! Some minor perspective issues if your going for accuracy, if not they should be fine.

The most noticeable being that you have depicted an angle change in the building that seems to go right through this door. Also the bend in the balcony is not consistent with the bend in the building.

Thanks Sam, I see that.

The shadow going down the left side, is meant to be a shadow from a large building out of sight but casting. And as the balcony pertrudes from the wall, the shadow you have highlighted is the bend in the shadow, if you catch what I mean lol

Ahhhhhhhhh.........OK I see! I guess it's that hard edge of the shadow throwing me off! Disregard previous comment then!

I previously had the hard shadow on the left without the little bit of shadow going along the balcony edge...

But didn't look right.

I guess the hard shadow does look a little unconvincing lmao.

Can Illustrator do shading? For instance, to give the balcony railings some depth? Can you swap images, or parts of images from Illustrator to Photoshop? It's very east to move between apps like Premiere Pro, Audition, After Effects and Photoshop, and it would be nice if the same dynamic link features worked with Illustrator.

Sure..

Ai has similar effects as Ps does. Infact, you can opt to use Ps effects on Ai lol.

I just prefer to Copy from Ai then paste to Ps as a smart object vector.
