B&W shortcut toggled by mistake..can't find the shortcut

This happens so infrequently that I forget how to get back to color!

I'm working away and hit a key combo by mistake and suddenly my image goes B&W. History doesn't help and I don't know what key combo I pressed, by accident! :frown:

It makes me crazy! Why doesn't History work to get back the color and what it the combo I pressed by accident????

I promise I will put it on a post-it right next to my screen so I won't forget again!

Do you really mean B&W or does it go greyscale?

What info do you have in the document tab?

Does the history show anything at all?

Is this a single layer document?

Does Alt+CTRL+Z do anything...if you hit it enough times?

I can't think of any action that would not be recorded in the history.
We would need substantially more info, preferably screenshots, to make even an educated guess at this.

Can you supply a screengrab of the WHOLE UI when this happens?

There is a History but it doesn't include the accidental toggle action

Yes

No, but I can see the History and even if I move to the top the History the image remains B&W.

Can you supply a screengrab of the WHOLE UI when this happens?

Like I said in the caption, I have experienced this toggle before and I know it's a shortcut toggle and it happened while I was one the lower left side of the keyboard in combination with a control/Alt/Shift key.

Hi Mike
I think I spotted your issue.
If you look at the title on the tab, at the end it indicates you have the blue channel activated only which would show as B&W.
Go to the channels palette and turn on on RGB so all channels are on. While you are at it it will show you the keyboard shortcuts on the right which probably activated the situation.

OK, you are looking at a CHANNEL...the BLUE one!
The SHORTCUT for this is CTRL + 5

The DOCUMENT TAB is here...(It contains VERY valuable information)



...see how it INSTANTLY shows you that it is looking at the BLUE channel!

To get back to RGB click the channels tab to open the channels panel...
...select RGB at the very TOP of the stack...

THIS...
is what you have...(NOTE the shortcuts to the right)



THIS...
Is what you want...



Your image will now be back in glorious RGB colour.

BTW, The image IS a greyscale image....B&W has ONLY Black and White in it, not shades of grey.

So that was the Tab info you were asking about?

But I don't know if I can promise not to do it again because I don't know what I did to make it happen in the first place. But I know it's a toggle, someone told me how to toggle it back the last time; I just forgot :frown: But this solution works, so I'm happy

I've just told you, and shown you what you did...CTRL + 5.

Sorry Mike but no, it isn't. The shortcut is selecting the BLUE channel, as shown in my image of the channels panel....look to the right...all the shortcuts are there.

If you hit CTRL + 5 again NOTHING will happen....it is NOT a toggle.

Not possible, its not a toggle.

...But this solution works, so I'm happy...

There isn't any other solution.

You can revert to RGB by way of clicking the RGB channel in the channels panel OR use the shortcut CTRL + 2.

Just making sure you understand the differences here...with all good intentions.

I think I understand my confusion re the toggle. That toggle is in Lr, where I divide my time, and sometimes confuse the two!
