Hi,

Where do you, the more experienced users, get the inspiration for your Avatars?

Does anyone know of any good tutorials to make Avatars in Photoshop that I can do for now, to practice them, gain experience, and perhaps find inspiration for one of my own (where I can then apply the experience)?

Thanks!

Rey

if i'm not barking up the wrong tree here and you mean "how do you think of the avatars"

aand you really call me an "experienced" user (pfft, yeah right!) my point of view is, i usually make avatars as the inspiration comes, due to the life i live, they are usually gaming or war related (check sig, for instance)

Usually just browsing on google and looking at photographs or manipulations, can provide inspiration you need.

what sort of things do you like, are you a gamer, a sportster or musical type or whatever? maybe i can provide you with some inspiration based upon what you like.

other than that, I feel inspired while listening to a certain type of music, it might help you too.

Go on youtube and Search up Two Steps From Hell, Audiomachine or Naoki Sato and listen to some of their music and you will no doubt feel inspired, if not, that's fine, but it has helped a lot of buddies.

For a Taster, see if you like them.

This is John Dreamer, a good fave, i listened to this while creating a wallpaper not long ago it turned out pretty good in the end.

another one that helped out recently

or just go with the flow, grab a few images from google, mash them together, and see if you can get anything out of it.

or just do tutorials until you think up of something

By the way, i know my avatar isn't great XD ironic i know but i felt nostalgic :P

Hi Rey, my avatars are projects I did in Photoshop, maybe altered some more for the purpose. Sometimes they have nothing to do with me, or like my portrait manipulations, may reflect a part of my personality (but not my advanced age, rofl).

Some people, as you can see in Zee's post, like to use animations, and some people change theirs almost daily. I'm not sure there's anything special to making one. A lot of avatars are designs that represent people's work, business, personalities, etc.

I don't think it's as much learning to make an avatar as it is learning to create the composition or effect or whatever you want, then making that an avatar. Which ones appeal to you? Which do you want to learn to do? Maybe you should PM the members whose avatars you like and ask for tips on making one similaar. Just for practice like you said, while you find your own inspiration.

Just to clarify, that avatar is the only animated avatar i have EVER had :) a majority of the time they are full size and static... and dark.

on the subject of avatars, i need to change mine...

I did mean how you thought of the Avatars, yes. I think right now I'm going to do some tutorials, because even if I thought of something great, I wouldn't necessarily know how to create it.

I'm thinking something that's more like a logo, as opposed to something that looks like a person. Here are some examples from YouTube channels:

Can you think about how to gain inspiration for those kind of Avatars?

Thank you for the advice! It was helpful. :D
