Hi all,

I'm new to this forum asking for some advice, before I pull my own hair out.

I am leaving my work on the 21st December to start my own business, I had a logo drawn up by my sister who did it on her DS. It lost a bit of the quality when it was uploaded on to the computer so I used paint to colour some sections in again and try to restore it. I got it looking passable but once it's uploaded on to the website I designed and also put on to business cards it looks awful.

It isn't necessarily the quality, if you tip your screen back you might be able to see but the outside is covered in pixels that I just can't get rid of no matter how hard I try. The eyes, the hat and the fur isn't smooth and the hairs on the outside look very rough and untidy.

Obviously this is going on to my website and business cards so I wanted it to look as good as possible, I can design websites but I know nothing about photoshop or graphics.

I am here as a last resort to see if anybody can help make it look better and get rid of the pixels around the outside of the image (as I said, you might only see this if you tip the screen back but it shows up on the business cards quite badly).

I have attached the image below, I would really appreciate any help. Thank you.

I have enlarged the image and still can't see. Do you have the image available as a png or on its own layer in PS?

There are a number of ways to clean up an image but which method is easiest/best depends on the amount and kind of work.

One other point. As this is a business logo, members may consider it a freelance job, as I do. However, there are those who like to take on this kind of practice.

You may want to read this: http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum...-posting-freelance-job-please-read-first.html

I would consider it a quick edit, which is very reasonable.

Like Clare, I don't see the kind of effect that is bothering you, at least when I click on the in-line image and open the result in a decent browser or other imaging program.

However, I certainly do see JPG artifacts in the in-line image. These are blocks of around 4 pixels on a side that look like faint checkerboards. I also see "stair-stepping" in the in-line version of your image, but less in the underlying version. Fortunately, you can ignore these artifacts. Both are due to the bulletin board software highly compressing every image to save space.

I don't know if this is the direction you want to go, but attached below is one way to clean up the image a bit. If I am on the right track and you are interested, respond in the thread and I'll describe what I did.

Regards,

Tom M

I admit, I never opened it in Photoshop. If this is jpeg compression because your friend copied it from someone else's work, then I hope you have rights to it. Copyrighted or not, an author should be asked for the right to reproduce. That said, it could simply be compressed due to frequent copying and those artifacts would result. But as TM said, dealt with.
