Any knows how to create a seprate retangle with toning color like this? I am using graphic toning to create this effect, but each time it comes with a picture or graph, I dont know if I can create this kind of color to fill in a retangle? I have no clue about the name of this color, either transparent or gradient, its like half-transparent and can see the content behind the color, I've tried gradient effect and opacity, but the color is not coming out. Unlike gradient, the color is equally transparent in everywhere, and still you can see the content behind it. Thank you for your time and I really appreciate an reply!

Hi Sydney, if this effect is what your referring to............

It's a matter of creating a new layer above the original, adding a gradient with the Gradient Tool. Open the gradient editor and set the tool to the foreground to transparent preset. Set your foreground color that you would like to use. Apply the gradient to the new layer. Then lower the gradient layers opacity to about 60% or more.

You could also add a Hue & Saturation adjustment layer, then add a gradient to it's layer mask by selecting the mask and applying the same type gradient that I described above except set your foreground color to black. Any color adjustment will only affect the area that you masked.

haha, how can you find a pretty girl who likes to read like mine? but seriously no, the fringe and the content are very sharp and very clear, yours is blurry, any solution to this? thanks!

and most important thing is that I do this effect with graphic toning, which requires a picture, I want to create a retangle with effect color described above without picture, just a retangle~~~

Mine is blurry because the original image is blurry.

Make a selection on the image with the Rectangular Marquee Tool.....

Add a adjustment layer of your choice, then make adjustments......

You could also duplicate the original image.
Make whatever tonal changes to the duplicate layer.
Add a layer mask to the duplicate layer. Select the layer mask by clicking it.
Use the rectangular marquee tool to make a selection, then fill the selection with black.

Make a rectangle where you want the new color to be.

Make a new hue/saturation adjustment layer. (If your selection is live, it should create a layer mask using your selection. Make sure you have your feather set to 0 when you make your selection)

Take the saturation down to ZERO on the hue/saturation adjustment layer.

Duplicate this layer. When you open up the duplicated adjustment layer, be sure to check the "Colorize" box and then just make it whatever color you want using the hue slider. Just adjust the saturation and hue sliders, don't mess with the brightness. :)

A blue photo filter also works - use layer>adjustment>photo filter. And don't forget to make the selection of the model or parts of where you want the blue not to appear. (or paint these out on a mask)

It's just a rectangle with color on a layer set to COLOR MODE.....

I've hid the image layer so you'll see the the true color on the layer on its own.....
