I don't know, and I tried uploading it to http://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/ , but it couldnt recognize it. Find a better image and upload it to that site, its very helpful!

Knowing the age of the movie it may well be a custom job that was hand painted. Not unusual in those days before the computers and fancy fonts. That is just my guess though.

I'd say you are exactly right George. With two such different 'E' characters to analyze it's clear that those letters were hand drawn with imperfection being a desired quality. The curves in each are very different etc.
