anyone know how to create basket Ball effect/texture

The whole thing, with the lines going around the ball, or just the bumpy texture on it.?

Just the bumpy texture - I want to add this texture to different shapes etc. I probably will end up making a basket ball as well in the end.

I'd say to use the add noise filter. Maybe maximize the points, then save it as a channel, and use it in the lighting filter, or add bevel and emboss.

What about creating the texture from a closeup shot of a basketball? ;)

hahaha, that was my initial reaction. I actually did that with a football, when I needed a basketball texture to do a set of basketball cards for a youth group. I'm not a basketball fan, so I had no basketball around, but a football is almost as close. Especially if it's getting somewhat blown up as mine did.

try this. tweak it around a bit, the principle works

I took thekeeper's first bball picture and made a small pattern.
(I happen to be the worst pattern maker to hit PS but I did it to show possiblities)
Then filled a circle with the pattern, spherized it...put a couple of lines on it and ta-da... an ugly basket ball!
But you guys get the idea!

Its not perfect but I think it works..
making the BBall pattern from scratch.
Brush tool / spacing... increase the spacing until the dots are not touching. Picked a orange color of sorts and made three staggered lines, merged the three line to one layer.
Then layer style / bevel and emboss / made smooth bumps.
place an orange background behind the bumps, then made a pattern.

Fill a circle with the pattern (these particular bumps are to big, but I think it shows that it can be made ok in PS) add the black lines with some styles for depth...

I think with smaller bumps it could work.
Anyway hope this helps,
