Illustrator Any way to export vector paths into XaraX??

Hi,

I know there are a few folks in here that love XaraX and I was just curious if there is a way to export a created image or path or both as a viable vector into XaraX.

In CorelDraw12 you can create a shape and then just copy and then paste it into XaraX and it's still vector. I know PS is mostly an image program but it DOES have vector capabilities so it's quite strange that there is no WMF export filter or even an .ai export filter that gives options for versions.

XaraX has EPS importation and exportation capabilities but I can not figure out which of the 3 EPS filters that PS-CS offers and which settings to choose in order for XaraX to open it up and still have it be editable.

Is there a way or a workaround??

The reason? There are shapes in PS that you can not easily create in XaraX and there are times when a vector program is called for and I don't use Illustrator. Draw is fine to for that, as I can then export using the CMX export and it goes right into XaraX.

Many thanks!!

Richard ;)

hm... i think RAM that XaraX is just too damn old now to be useful for this kind of thing. While other companies have gone on to develope newer versions of their import/export filters, XaraX remains antiquated in this respect.

I tried using every export option PS has but could not get Xara to open any of them, or open them in their original form. I received several "Photoshop EPS format is not supported" messages. Perhaps Illustrator has more vector format options and will work with Xara. AI can read/open PS documents and retain the vector data... which could then be saved out for Xara.

Other than that, i myself am at a loss as to a direct solution for this issue. Sorry. \:] :B

Thanks for trying Mark. At least we are on the same page. I do have AI 8 on board, maybe that's worth looking into as a workaround.

Thanks again! :righton:

OK, I found my work around.

Create the shape in PS or a pre made shape like this nice set of 101 Frames I found somewhere on line (nice selections), export paths to Illustrator 8 and then save it as 5.0 / 5.5 EPS and that worked well. :righton:

I then tested out version export of 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0 and all were fine for importing into XaraX. :righton:

So the default export from Illustrator 8 works perfectly for XaraX's antiquated importation filters. Not sure if XaraX can import 9.0 or 10.0 much less Illustrator 11! \:]

naaa i would think that AI8 came around about the same time as XaraX did. I don't think 10 or 11 will work... 9 might.
