Hi all

Just back from a month traveling in Asia, just created this image. Nothing to do with Asia but hope you like it all the same, comments good and bad most appreciated. Hope you all are having a wonderful new year to date :) here's two images below, not sure if the second is a bit to grainy

Take it easy gedstar, not many members are busy 24/7 in this forum . You have to be patient and wait for comments.

I like your creation a lot, though I would prefer a much softer look. The birds and the model don't blend well with the background.
Then I would move the model back a bit and to the right side of the picture. Is there a reason why you cut off her knees?
The greyish color of the sky is also bit off, should be more blue.

Heyyyyyy Gedstar, calm dred, like chris said people have lives and time zones remember, yeah it's a good effort on your part.
But you can't come asking for critique then getting all shirty with the lack of replies SO FAR mate.

One major issue for me is the blending/lighting.

Where in Asia did you go?

The owl and birds are too sharp and need lower contrast. Softening the them may blend them more into the background.

Same goes with the fairy.. too much hilights at the top and edges of wings. Decrease the brightness.

Hey Geddy, I pretty much agree with what has been stated so far so I won't repeat them.

I really prefer the softness of your first version.
I would add some blue color to the sky/moon and reposition the fairy higher and a bit deeper in the midground. Try dv8's suggestion on the birds and that should help with their blending. The eyes in the tree add a nice creep factor but their contrast and sharpness needs to be taken down as well.

I'm going to agree with everything said so far, but add in my own take on it, too.

One thing I always say about scene compositions is that if every object in the finished product doesn't match the lighting direction, angle and perspective of the background, the illusion is lost on the viewer.

The lighting of the two white owls and grey bird on the branch do not match the background, at all. You can work for days trying to modify their lighting, but you would likely end up with a mess and your hair in a clump on the floor. Your better bet is to find objects that share a similar lighting as your background.

I take it the angel's wings are an add-on and were not part of the stock model's image. The wings are supposed to be an extension of her body, yet they are lit in a totally different manner.

Before you add any special lighting or effects, get the ambient lighting correct on every object so they work in that of the background.

Thanks Crotale for the advice. Yes the wings are an addon and I see what you mean about the lighting mismatches, think I'll start this one over again.

Hi dv8_fx

Just spend a month traveling around Thailand, started off with a couple of days in Bangkok and then traveled too Pattaya. After that got a train up to Nong Khai and then headed to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. Beautiful country and wonderful food and lovely people. Stayed away from the tourist trail not really into that kind of scene, much prefer to experience the real Thailand.

Where in Asia did you go?

Same goes with the fairy.. too much hilights at the top and edges of wings. Decrease the brightness.
