Have everyone. I have AE CS4. It is so freaking slow. I have a AMD Phenom II 2x and 4 GB of Ram.Running Windows 7 Home Premium. No Graphics Card, Just the stock system graphics (Nvidia). Im going to get another 4GB of Ram in my machine, making it 8GB of Ram. Will this speed up my app? Keep in mind that Im not trying to speed RENDER time... Im trying to speed up working within the APP itself. Help?

Thanks.

You will struggle without open GL 4 extra gigs of ram will help but only marginally you really need to be in the quad core Intel range. I know there is always going to be a debate over AMD and Intel but the truth is intel are more expensive and provide a more superior product.

I have an old intel quad core Q9650 4 gigs of ram windows 7 64 bit a basic 1 gig card

I also just built a friend a PC using the new AMD bulldozer 8 core Cpu 12 gigs of ram and a nvidia 1.5 gig range card.

which was better.

Cinema 4d rendering out a 10 second scene using global illumination and ambient occlusion
Intel quadcore system time 3 hours 45 mins

New Amd 8 core system over 6 hours and I stopped it

Ok so we know cinema 4d is very cpu intensive and could use more raphic card power and ram so lets move onto after effects

complicated particle rendering scene

intel took 30 mins to render

Amd took just over 50 mins

So the truth is INtel old cpu technically half the power of AMD new 8 core cpu and yet still out performs it

And if you are struggling with cs4 then I would not even think about upgrading to cs5\5.5 \6

If this is going to be your career then you need to invest in proper hardware.

Hi, You should upgrade to CS5, CS5,5 or CS6 because these are 64 bit applications. CS4 is a 32 bit application and it runs 50% slower. After Effects has some settings that need to be tweaked because they are not set to high performance by default. You can find all the information in this tutorial: tinyurl.com/bw6t5xc

You can't upgrade to cs6 unless you get Creative cloud or cc
