Hello, I'm interested in a user friendly program. I see that there are quite a few versions of photoshop as well as several other programs ie: paintshop, printshop etc. Can you advise which is the best for a beginner and can you recommend any classes on line. Also, what is a reasonable price to pay for the program you recommend.
Thanks for your advise and time. Hopefully i'll be creating in the very near future!

If you're just starting out, I'd recommend GIMP (LINK). It's a totally free, fully functional graphic editing program that you can play with for a little while to make sure you like what you're doing before you make any financial leap.

The only other currently circulating digital imaging software I'm familiar with is Photoshop. PS is the best there is right now, you'll never learn everything it can do, but the bright side to that is that it only has so much to learn because it can do pretty much anything if you have the patience. Help is readily available in the form of online tutorials, books, and even user forums like the one you're in now. The drawback? Photoshop CS3 (the newest version) is $649 for standard (LINK) to $999 for extended (LINK). Other cheaper ways of obtaining photoshop are available (ebay for example), but if you buy PS somewhere you're going to need to shell out some cash.
