Hells bells .. I've been using Phsp since Macs-in-a-box and always made a new layer to make further adjustments to a photo. I was watching the vid about 'Making Rain' in a section further down.. "Make an adjustment layer... yatta-yatta.." Wait?! How come the little layer window in his is divided to the right - not simply duplicated?

I learned something new today. I probably have 5-8 books, but always had problems with books going waaaay-back. I love to read but have a Gaussian Blur preset in my retention synapses. Thanks for posting that. I learned something new today.

Hi Wetstuff !
Had to go back and watch my own tutorials to get this since I don't remeber using any Adjustment Layer.... ok - turned out the other guy in the "hi-jacked" and now locked thread did.
The division of an Adjustment Layer is because Adjustment Layers are "empty" - per definition - as in they do not contain image information. Just the tool to make the adjustment you want. The white square to the right of the Layer Icon is the Layer Mask that comes along with the Adjustment Layer by default. Hope I got this right and it was this you ment.

Ya, JG .. I have heard of 'Masks' before .. I even remember a book (more damn books..) once that was only about masks - but those all-Red things confused me. This is soooo much better than my usual way of me making a new, copy of the image and then doing Vibrance, Levels, etc..to each new copy. Thanks again.

Sounds to me as you've done all your adjustments with the Static Adjustments - under Image -> Adjustments and so forth... Please stop doing that immediately !! :)
Adjustment Layers is the very much smarter way of doing things and much more flexible. Ok, some of the Static Adjustments doesn't exist as an Adjustment Layer equivalent, so there you have no choise. But using Adjustment Layers as far as possible is the better way.
As for Layer Masks you can have a look at this video: Luminance Masks
Not the basics of them - coming up soon - but how they work, anyways ...
