Hi all,

Having trouble with this problem...

I have layer 1 with a color mask set to black, red, blue etc.
I have layer 2 with a color mask which i want to match and also become black, red, blue

There are hundreds of files, and the color in layer 1 is always different.

Manually i would simply click on the layer 2 mask which opens the color picker, and select the area of layer 1 i want to match.

But doing that in a macro does not work.

I can't get a macro to recognize that i want to copy the color content of a mask, and not the specific color used in the example during which the macro is recorded. The color picker does not seem capable of selecting a dynamic input (e.g. whater color is on layer 1), it simply copies whatever was in layer 1 during recording like a dumb instrument.

thanks for any input.

Hmmmm, sorry but I'm having trouble understanding what you've already done.

This confuses me, a colour mask?
Masks are normally greyscale so what do you mean by colour mask? (Black, Red, Blue etc)

Hmmmm, ditto.

What files?
Why is a constantly differing layer 1 colour relevant? How does it add to the problem?

You are using Photoshop right?
I've never known the colour picker to open upon clicking a mask....colour or otherwise!

But doing that in a macro does not work.
Are you really sure this is Photoshop?
Photoshop doesn't have macros.....(is that why this is identical to your other post 13 mins earlier with a different title?)

I'm more than willing to help but without sufficient relevant information it really is a non-starter.

If you can throw together a few screen grabs and a better explanation of what you've done that would help, otherwise you may find not many people are willing to spend the time deciphering the question....let alone answering it.

Regards.
MrTom.

Problem was solved in another photoshop forum using an identical post. Thanks for the reply, but a bit over your pay grade me thinks.

I have been using PS since the 1990's and started teaching it about 10 years later. I agree with everything that Mr. Tom said about the lack of clarity and/or improper terminology in your question. There simply is no color in layer masks in PS, as you suggest by the title of this thread.

When you say that your question was answered in another forum, I presume you mean here:
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1508019

In fact, you received precisely one answer in that forum. It was by "pixelpuncher", and his first words were exactly what Mr. Tom said: "Not sure what you mean by color mask...". In fact, your question in that forum was categorized as, "not answered".

If that's not the forum you are referring to, could you please supply the URL of the discussion where your question was answered. I would be interested to learn how it was interpreted.

Might be over YOUR paygrade demonstrated by making such a nebulous query

Hi Tom,

2 quick points.

1. You presume wrong hence the question remains "not answered".
2. I see no reason to share a more helpful forums response here.
