I like the Ace! Here is my take on old and torn.

Thank you Larry for joining my thread . what i was trying to acheive was a combination of antique , OLD and , Torn . I have seen a couple of good examples of how to make the "Torn effect" , but what i like about your picture is the amount of "scratches" u've given on the ACE , that makes the image realistically OLD . :D :D

What i was trying to acheive was

MetalScratches0027_Sd.jpg

I really like those scratches which are actually ,lines on the BG (or some other layer) .

I'll go try some more in photoshop and lets see what happens .

Well I actually cheated a little bit. I used some torn edge brushes to get that effect. Then I used a Nik filter- Color Efex Pro 4 -Nostalgic to get the faded out look. Then, I adjusted the Hue/Saturation some with an adjustment layer.

I guess the lazy designer is the best designer because he always finds a easy way to accomplish hard tasks . LOL :D

Never-the-less , well done ! .

Yes..if you haven't figured it out yet..you will..TIME IS MONEY and KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

As a lazy designer, I often use torn paper backgrounds and for your purposes, maybe scratched paper or metal textures. Then you can work these in, change hues, opacity, blend modes etc. to get the effect you want. Larry's idea of torn edge brushes is a cool one too.

i was afraid someone going to take the "Lazy" part too seriously :) i'll try this trick the next time i need a worn out look .

Here is a quick advert that i created today and my boss kind of liked it . taught i'd share it on this thread itself ;) this one took me like 15 mins .. ! :D

You're having too much fun. This is a nice idea. But I have a bit of a critique which points out to me why it took only 15 minutes to do. You will learn to be more critical of your work, but that takes time and experience. Don't hurry and don't worry. I am pleased; it is a very good sign that you share with us and take seriously the advice you ask for. Let me tell you: sometimes that is a rarity.

I have a few suggestions:

1) Learn to make your selections clean. I really advise that you learn to use the pen tool,. Mastering it may take some time, but in the meantime, you can use masking, refine edge, refine mask, and painitng on the meask to clean up your edges. You can see the white outlines that show a selection that is not cleanly made when you look a the ball caps.

2) The background should probably be at a lower opacity. Maybe even like a watermark, 10 or 20%, even higher. As it is now, it wars with the demand for attention and it is hard to decide if the bursts are the focus or the ball caps. You can experiement with different opacity levels from say 90% down and check how this offsets the caps.

3) The border of the shield might look better if it has a color or black line on the right edge which is sitting on white. Or you could move the shadow so that it is a drop shadow delineating the difference between the white shield and the white field instead of directing it to the grey field where it gets lost anyway.

What do you think of these suggestions?
.

Thank you for that Ib. :D

Eyes of an eagel ... ur absolutly right the pen tool is the one that i need to get a hang of , i was really avoiding it for a while now .in my future post , i'll probably use the pen tool and post some examples .

I Like ur 2nd suggestion , i'll experiment with that .

and so far as the shield is concerned i did make a correction .
