You're having too much fun. This is a nice idea. But I have a bit of a critique which points out to me why it took only 15 minutes to do. You will learn to be more critical of your work, but that takes time and experience. Don't hurry and don't worry. I am pleased; it is a very good sign that you share with us and take seriously the advice you ask for. Let me tell you: sometimes that is a rarity.
I have a few suggestions:
1) Learn to make your selections clean. I really advise that you learn to use the pen tool,. Mastering it may take some time, but in the meantime, you can use masking, refine edge, refine mask, and painitng on the meask to clean up your edges. You can see the white outlines that show a selection that is not cleanly made when you look a the ball caps.
2) The background should probably be at a lower opacity. Maybe even like a watermark, 10 or 20%, even higher. As it is now, it wars with the demand for attention and it is hard to decide if the bursts are the focus or the ball caps. You can experiement with different opacity levels from say 90% down and check how this offsets the caps.
3) The border of the shield might look better if it has a color or black line on the right edge which is sitting on white. Or you could move the shadow so that it is a drop shadow delineating the difference between the white shield and the white field instead of directing it to the grey field where it gets lost anyway.
What do you think of these suggestions?
