About color preset

Hi there,

I have 2 problems which stuck me for a long time, I hope some one can point me out the right direction.

1) I always want to try to make this kind of effect from a normal photo without any ambient light. At first, I tried to add a color balance but it seems the face looks very wierd.
Then I tried to use gradient map but it doesnt work very well either. I think either 1 of this should be the solution, most likely it is just gradient map.
If this is the way how we do it, how can we define the colors?

I studied a lot of this kind of photos, most of the time their face maintain some of the original color but it is covered by some of the ambient color.
How can we control this? is it lower down the opacity to 10% or we just change the highlight in the color balance? I have totally no idea how to do it.
Or is it simply we can do it by custom color preset?

This is how the concert looks like. It will be great if I can create this kind of theme without using those lights physically.

Same as above, everytime when I use color balance, it becomes very wierd. I tried photo filter warm, or color look up crisp warm and make it 20-30% low opacity, they never end well.
It just looks very strange. I even tried to use a gradient on the mask to prevent the uniform color. Am I missed some important steps? From what I observe, if I want to make the
face yellow, the high light should be always a bit less yellowish. I tired to use a 20% brush to remove the yellow from the highlight but it looks strange still.

Second problem is about the color preset in camera raw, I purchased some of them from internet. Most of the time, it is not working as their example pictures. For example it said warm color
but it ends up gives me sharp bright orange. At first I think we have to lower the opacity but I think what I am doing was wrong right? Let's say if I want to make the photo as "soft brown theme",
Do we need to lower the saturation first and then apply the soft brown preset after? Or do we need to use color mixer to make our color similar to soft brown first, and then we apply the filter after?
I always think I missed some step before I apply those camera preset, it is like none of them works.

Thanks !
