a lil help on fonts

Hi DavidL913,

Well making a font is out as Photoshop doesn't do that. What are you trying to do?

One thought I had is that you could open an image in Photoshop, select all or part of it and use Edit > Define Brush Preset... You would then have a brush which is made from all the brightness values of your original image (greyscale sort of). When you choose a color and use your new brush with a single click you would get that image in shades of your foreground color.

Does that help?

Hello,

thx for the reply.

What I'm trying to do is manipulate the font in the picture so I can do so funny stuff with it (such as changing the words around).

Well, almost anything can be done but we would need to see a specific example before a strategy can be figured out. I'm afraid I still don't understand what you are trying to do. Is there text on an existiing image which you wish to change? Are you trying to use the image in the letters? Perhaps I'm just being dense today! ;)

Can you upload an sample image? (Note that we request that you not use copyrighted material, unless you own the copyright.)

Well, the easiest way is to find the original font, perhaps use the clone stamp tool to eliminate the existing text and place your own. Again, any strategy depends on the specific image.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know of a plugin for photoshop that allows one to make fonts?

That would be useful...

Hi A'oE,

There's no such thing as a font making plugin for PS. Your best bet currently is FontLab 4.6 which is a professional application and pricey. They do have a Lite version for considerably less money called TypeTool.

Really, the only other option is to try and find an old version of Fontographer on eBay or somewhere like that. Macromedia hasn't upgraded that in many years and I've heard no rumor that they intend to do so.

This is a little off topic from the first question, but since we are talking about font proggys... I have created a font with this site's 30 day trial, I still want to buy the program, just haven't done it yet.

http://www.high-logic.com/ for $65.00 us.

I made a font of my daughters handwriting. I took the image(s) into photoshop to clean it up and then imported it into this program. It would probably make *real* font makers cringe, but my family thought it was pretty cool. :bustagut: Everyone wants a font in their own handwriting now! I told them to buy me the proggy and I'd do it! :righton:

That looks like a good application, Sheba. My knowledge of Windows applications is pretty limited as I mostly use a Mac. Thanks for adding that one to the discussion. :righton:
