1) How can I crop a photo by drawing around the area I want cropped, rather than by a generic square?

2) How do I apply the cropped part onto another photo?

3) Let's say I've done steps 1 and 2 and now have an edited photo, how do I make it appear inside an existing video, on let's say the top left corner of the video screen?

use the lasso tool (l) or use the pen tool (p) then right click and convert path into selection

then when you have it selected, press ctrl+shift + I and press delete

now save it as .png

open windows movie maker and place it in the corner

I don't know what "covert path into selection" means. After I draw the circle I need, I right click and I have orders like "seve selection", "transform selection" etc. I just wanna know how I crop just the area I drew around and make the rest of the photo go away and save it.

Also - Is windows movie maker the only way to edit videos? Photoshop can't do it?

only do it when you use the pen tool, not needed if you use the lasso tool
photoshop can't edit videos, you need a movie edit programs,
unless you want to pay for after effects or premier pro (about 1000 dollar)
you can just use windows movie maker or another free program

I still don't understand. I just need step-by-step. How do I mark an area, crop it, save it and then paste it on top of another photo?

make a selection using any of the techniques , magic wand , quick selection tool , shape selection tool , lasoo tool etc

you should then have marching ants around your selection

if its not quite right press the quick mask icon ( its at the bottom of your tools) looks like a little camera

everything not selected inside your ants will be red , paint in black too fine tune your selection if you go too far paint in white to reveal more of your selection , when finished click the camera icon again and your marching ants will be exactly what wasnt red , now go to select and hit refine edge , for ease just smooth edge about 10-15 there is a lot more to it but that will get you a softer edge

now you have your selection go to edit click copy , go to the picture you want to paste to , edit click paste , then it should be there , now go to edit and press free transform , you can now size it and position it exactly where you want it

not sure of the video stuff i dont get into video yet

hope that helps

You completely lost me with all the red and black and smoothing. I have no idea what you're talking about. Is there no way to simply draw the area I want cropped (wand, lasoo, whatever) and simply crop it, save it and then copy and paste it on another photo?

when you have your selection ie the marching ants , go to edit up the top menu , in the drop down select copy , open the picture inside photoshop you want your selection copied to , go to edit again and hit paste , done very very easy

the first post i outlined simply make the selection look more natural , but first things first copy and paste something into another photo by reading the first sentences

Hi Gilad,

Questions #1 and 2. VIDEO

This is not the best video, but it covers basics. I would search for videos on extraction methods using the pen tool as well.

Moving it into another document is easy, open both photos, remove your subject from one photo and copy......select the photo other you want it in and paste.
