A Couple of Images From Tutorials

Here are the first couple of photo manipulations I've worked on.

They were both created by following online tutorials, which I've found to be a fantastic way for me to learn. I never in a million years thought I would be able to create something like these but the tutorials were brilliant and with a lot of patience and swapping from photoshop to the internet to look up and understand certain techniques, clipping masks, filters, adjustment layers etc I'm really happy with the results. What's even better is that I'm able to look back on these with a critical eye now and work out how I could make things better on my own from other techniques I've learnt using the same process.

I can't wait for the day when I'm able to create something like these from scratch. :)

This was my very first attempt at using more than the crop, resize and clone brush tools. It's from a tutorial by Andrea Garcia at Photoshoptutorials.ws, As a new member here I'm not able to post links but a simple google search should help you find it. I believe most if not all of the stock images were taken from diviantart and the links to these are in the tutorial.

This one is by the editor at photoshoptutorials (sorry I don't have a name) again I can't insert the link but it's called 'How to Composite a Destroyed City Scene and Retouch Characters in Photoshop'

Thanks for looking and any advice would be much appreciated. Also if you have any tutorials you think I might manage I'd be very interested.

Thanks
Stacy

Hi Clare,
I've updated the original post but the images seem very large. If you could tell me if there is a way to make them smaller so they are easier to see I'd be more than happy to do it.
Also I've linked the image to the url so does that count as crediting or do you think it would be better to write the credit underneath the images?

Thanks for suggesting this, I can certainly see how it makes it easier to see the work done and have seen it work throughout the boards. :)

The manips are nicely done.. good job... I like the 'Destroyed City' ...

A few bits of change could make it more realistic (I think so, maybe, post the result if you could)
* Add a slight 'gaussian blur' to the city since its too far in the background and the girl be in focus. Keep this effect low since the destroyed city should be noticable.
* The sun rays take the eye-focus off the girl or the city. Soften it a bit or decrease the opacity..

Rest... it is goooood

They're fine Stacy. They upload to the forum and don't look too large on site. Sometimes what I will do is make a composite, like a proof sheet and paste all the images to one doc, and size it, transforming some to fit size-wise. But it isn't necessary. And thanks for the images. A lot of complex blending so extra kudos for sharing those and showing us how much was involved. Makes the results more spectacular!

Stacy.. thanks for taking a look... but if you had seen what i posted here when i first join i would again say you out strip anything i did for the first attempts.. Keep it up you will go far

The Only reason i have got the stage i am at now is down to the great people who give advice on this forum... you can watch tutorials all day long but it's when you post it here that makes that extra difference.. other people see things in different ways and give advise that only improve how you work .

Clare: Thanks for the advice about the pics, I've done what you suggested as I think it makes the post easier to read and will probably do it this way in the future! :)

Karan: Thank you for the ideas for the second image, I'm going to give those a go today and will post the results later!

Ink: I completely agree with you regarding the advise from others and will say that as quite a nervous person I spent a lot of time reading through this and other forums before I felt happy enough to post here.
The community here struck me as the most friendly and generous and I've been blown away by the amount of time people spend helping others. It shocked me that people are prepared to write whole tutorials in a post reply and I can only hope that one day I will be able to do the same and return the favour.
Some of the other forums I 'stalked' were quite rude and weren't nearly as happy to part with their knowledge as people here, its the reason I choose to sign up to this one above the others.

Now my sycophantic rantings are done, I shall go and work on the lighting on my second image!!

Here's the updated version with a very slight gaussian blur (1.1 radius) and lowered opacity on the light rays.
I really like the effect this has given so Thank you Karan!

Yep Sam, it is a county, I thought naming villages might be a bit specific! The closest largest town to me is probably Birmingham :)

I agree Stacy!

I traveled that area but I only remember visiting an old abby near a river.....that's been a while back.

You be a sycophant all you want. Who can here enough of that?
