Have you ever started trying to do one thing then ending up doing something completely different. I set out to get a better understanding of how to create & use gradients. For example, what can they be applied to, how do I tweak them, or change completely, and lastly how do I changed the shape of a radial.

I found a tutorial that has an oval gradient on it, so I thought sweet lets try it. However the tutorial basically said "Create this effect" but didn't actually say how to do it. In the end I did the gradient in Ai & copy/pasted. That's when I went off track.

They also said use a picture of a can, and me being me.. I made one instead. Final result below.

Please can someone point me in the right direction on some gradient usage & tweaking info for Ps.

Cool. I like it. However, your hole looks a little weird. You might want to consider moving it a bit. You need to clean up in top left also.

Yes, i struggled with the shape & angle of the hole, it was more difficult than I imagined. I'm going to take another shot at it though.

Top left, meaning that dark area outside the rim? I noticed that too after I posted. I guessing I can erase that somehow.

EDIT: Ok, just worked out how to erase close up. I removed the offending pixels.

Yes. You can fix that in any number of ways. Best to zoom in on it and then probably just select the background color with the eyedropper tool and then use a very small hard brush to just give it a little touch.

Edit. Not as simple as I stated. I guess because it is a gradient, the tools didn't work as expected. I fixed it by placing a path around the area where the dark smudge was. Then I entered Ctrl T, then move the path to a place where you have the color you want. Then go back and select the pen tool and click on Selection. Then Ctrl J and put that selection on a layer. Then you can move it back over the blemish and merge down and you have it.
