I use Photoshop Cs3 and know a little about it. I have a photo I scanned in
at 600 ppi and I want to select part of it - blow that up to an output of
at least 8" wide.

how do i do this?
I do not have Illustrator - I use a Mac and am currently working on a project
with Mac's program ipages.

thx for any help

Just crop the image to the area you want to blow up, then go to Image --> Image Size and set your dimensions and dpi.

Try this... choose the Rectangular Marquee tool (M) and select the area you want to enlarge. After drawing your selection, go to Image --> Crop. Then go to Image --> Image Size and first set the dpi, then the image size in inches that you want.

Select the Crop Tool (C) and crop the area which you want to save.
or if you want to save it in polygonal system then follow those step-
1) Select the Polygonal Lasso Tool (L); select the area which you want to save.
2) Copy (Ctrl + C) the selection area.
3) Create a new Photoshop file (Ctrl + N); press Ctrl + V to paste the copied file.

Hope you would able to do this.
