Hey all, I made this silhouette in photoshop for my project And now it's starting to give me headaches because I just can't make this sideview character in frontview :s I tried and tried and finally I made a front view but my imagination got the best of me :D Instead of making it the same patterns as the sideview I made it totally differend in the frontview can anyone help me how to create a frontview of this sideview? How should I approach this? I would really like to be able to create this in 3ds max

I think you missunderstood, sry about that, what I mean is I need to make a 2D frontview identical as the 2D side view..
so that I can later put in 3d studio max to make it 3D

If you compare my second picture to the first it's not identical at al so i can't use them as a reference.. :(

Unfortunately the image youve posted seems to be a very 2dimensional image and there's no straightforward way to turn it around in photoshop. Or at least not that i know of. But the best thing that i can think of now that might help you get a headstart from where you can start building the front view would be to use 3ds max or any other 3d software thats available to you. Let me explain. If you are familiar with 3d softwares you might get what im trying to do in the explanation below but if you dont, lets just forget you saw this post at all :P

The idea is to create an outline of your sideview drawing using the one of the sideview orthographic camera/viewport, and then take that outline and extrude it backwards. So now from your frontview viewport you have a 3d geometry that kinda looks like a rectangle which is pretty useless. But what that extruded geometry gives you is a front view thats accurate in terms of height and in terms of proportion of head, torso, legs etc in height. Now comes the guess work. You can either take this front view and you can do a little bit more detailed modelling to very roughly carve out hands/legs etc and then take it to photoshop and paint the left and right contours of your frontview using your imagination and the rest of the parts should all fall into place on its own. Either ways the side contours of the frontview will have to be created manually from imagination. This will only help you get slightly more accurate results than you would get by doing it completely manual. Also like i said in the beginning this is not the solution. This is only a base for you to create your final solution from.

But then again in case you already thought of this and came to this forum cos you wanted to avoid doing this and do it with photoshop instead, then sorry that i confused you. :D

thank god i'm a decent modeler or that explanation would look like japanese :D
But I understood perfectly and yes the thought crossed my mind to model the side view in 3d And yes I was avoiding that :D but instead of extruding I was thinking of ''folding'' the front half of the sideview to front view and then I was thinking it'll probably wont work But I might try it the extruding way, I'm really anxcious to try it out but for today I'm just too tired :)

Thanks alot for your time and effort!

Ah thank goodness. So all those long sentences i typed didnt go waste. :P Let us know how it went once you get to it. Itll be a pretty cool 3d model going by your sketch.

Ok lol I just couldn't go to sleep before my last try in photoshop :D Note: This is not the real deal, I'm going to redo it, this was just quickly made without the right use of colors and definitly not aligned But I want to know do you see the resemblance in the patterns?? or is it my imagination playing tricks on my... Edit: oops forgot the feet :D well I'm going to use the one in my earlier post..

I see the shape but i cant tell if the posture is the same as the side view from this. Ok here's another idea. Im just gonna throw it out there. How about you go online and find a rigged human character.. a woman in your case.. and pose it in 3dsmax exactly the way you drew your sideview using the side viewport. You could additionally even texture it on the side exactly as youve drawn.(This would be bonus). Then use the front viewport and draw your colored lines on the posed character. This should be way more easier than my previous solution. The problem here is half solved if we look at it as a whole human character instead of just the lines. Once you have this front view image created then you could use those 2 images and then imagine it as the line character that youve drawn and create it. What do you think?

I think.. I love you! :D haha, Seriously that's a very good idea! Ok tomorrow will be a new chapter 'hunt for a female character'
Thx for the big help!

@ChrisHPZ thx, I'll definitly do that ^^

@5600k Thx, I did hunt one down but I got slapped :D
No but seriously I found a 3D model, downloaded it, I was rigging it with biped so i could move her to the pose i wanted...
And then it hits me.. Why don't I just use the damn biped!! :D so i'm wrapping the model around the biped It's not as efficient as having two perfectly matched refs but it's easy enough to work around the biped ;)

I'll post results later on, now i'm hopping to bed.. laterz

Just a suggestion, Pose the biped model in the apps you have, save it and open in Photoshop to do the texture directly on the model.

Thx guys I tried a few tricks here and there, but it was too distracting to work for the frontview sooooo after days of headaches and swearing I finally thought I'd try it free style with just the sideview picture :D Guesse what? It worked out... This is still in a early development, so bare with me here  So sry to keep you waiting I had to restart 3times wich was a real pain (hence the swearing part) Lemme know what you think.. Also don't mind the stomach area and the smoothing I just smoothed out quickly to show you the results.. Edit: forgot to add a sideview

glad you like it :)

@dv8_fx yes it's only the model, I tried with the biped to work around it but failed, it was more distracting and blocked my view
So I restarted and followed the sideview, the rest was just up to my imagination

Thats a nice start. Its difficult to tell about the other views but the sideview looks pretty cool to me. Even the tiny scales texture you have on. :)
