Hello,

I am a Photoshop noob and am working with a file with two other people. We are creating web comic pages. The line artist and colorist are both using CS 6. I have CC. The file I receive from them is around 238MB. If I open it and make even the slightest edit, Photoshop will not allow me to save it. It warns that the file size is too large (greater than 2GB!). What causes 10x increase in file size when I open the file? The alteration I make is simply adding a space between two words in a speech bubble text layer.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Are you saving it to the same file type?
If you're getting a PSD and are saving it as a TIFF the size will me much larger.

Also make sure you set PS to save to maximum backward compatibility under Preferences|File Handling and see if that helps.

Yes, I am saving PSD to PSD.

The save to maximum compatibility is set to "Always" in preferences.

Does this file info at the lower left offer any helpful information? Thank you for your help. I can send you the file if that will help.

Hi esotEric,

One thing to check is the bit depth of the file.......actually its more how your Photoshop is set up rather than the file itself...

Nav to:
Image > Mode

file_size_01.png

Is this set to 32 bits/channel by any chance?
You only need 8 bits/channel, especially for the type of image you are working with.

Failing that if you want to make the file available then I'll take a look for ya.

Regards.
MrTom.
