Hi, I am new to this forum, I have tried to look for an answer to this but haven't been able to so far.

I got a client who wants several photographs printed to fit his 11x14 custom frames he has.

The printing lab I'm associated with (the only one available in my country) does not print in that specific size, only on 8.5 x 11' and 12 x 18'.

I have offered to print on the 8.5 x 11' and mat the photographs to fit in the 11 x 14' frame, however he still wants some without any matting so I'm trying to create a 11x14' picture on a 12x18' print size paper that I can cut to fit in the frame.

What would be the best way to do that? Would there be any ppi modification I would need to do?

I use Photoshop CS6 and I have tried cropping but I lose parts of the pictures. Also, if I create a 12x18' white canvas I get a 300Mb file (not useful). I cannot do it from the print settings (or at least I think I can't) because my lab uses a final file and they don't use CS6 to print.

Please help!! Thanks!

Hi chicleacido...

That's quite a conundrum my friend. hmm...

I'd normally say that if you just don't have access to a printer that prints that size, your client is simply out of luck. Unless he wants to order his prints online.

On the OTHER hand...
You may be able to fix this yet.

Would you be able to shrink and post links to a couple of those photos so we can have a look at the content? The reason i ask is because i'm thinking you may be able to use the "Content Aware" function to expand the photos to match the desired size. But it will depend completely on whether the photos' contents will allow for the use of that filter.

Other than this method, there's no other way of fitting that smaller sized image into that 12x18 paper size. Proportionally it won't work without cropping.

Let me know if this makes sense.

Hi,
Also, if I create a 12x18' white canvas I get a 300Mb file (not useful). I cannot do it from the print settings (or at least I think I can't) because my lab uses a final file and they don't use CS6 to print.
There is no problem here, in my photolab i do it on the regular basis for more than often client have specific dimensions/proportions they want to have printed.
like you said just use bigger paper size available and make your images fit, no need for content aware fill or cloning (you do that when having disproportion between image and the paper)
if you have produced an 300Mb file there must be something wrong;-)
cropimage.jpg
if you're using PS cs6 goto crop tool, insert desired size (12x14 and make it 300dpi) than crop the image.
now, goto image-canvas size and uncheck-relative tickbox-an insert your 14x18"

alternatively, make new blank image of 14x18" on 300dpi, and just drag and drop your first cropped photo on it , goto ctrl+E. enjoy

thanks, looks like i've solved my problem.
I didnt actually cropped the image because I didnt want to lose any of it, but I changed the image size to 11x14' and scale proportion and then increased the canvas size like you said.
hopefully it will look great when I print it.
I also saved another copy as PDF with crop marks, see if this helps me on the cutting I have to do afterwards.

thanks again!
