    Stretching a 16-bit image without changing pixel values

    I have a 16 bit image which , due to raw pixel values, appears mostly black when first imported into PS. I can use auto contrast to stretch the image and to make edits, however this changes every pixel value. Is there a way to edit a stretched image then revert back to the original pixel values...

    im using Photoshop Cs5. in my requirement image should be 951x211 pixels. i have made that but when i put into my web page as a banner the image was stretched however all the other image banner has the same size(951x211) but not stretched as the one i edit..how can i re-size to prevent my image...
