Help me understand a few things with layer, masks and embedded assets

Hello @IamSam Thanks for the suggestions. Your explanations make a lot of sense. The structure I have in my PSD file for layers 2 & 3, I got there following click-for-click a YouTube tutorial last year. The result looks like this. As you can see. 1. The actual background is transparent (on a...

Help me understand a few things with layer, masks and embedded assets

Hello PS pros, I've tried to do a few simple manipulations with layers and embedded objects but I'm struggling. At its core, I'm essentially trying to replace the profile picture with the new one, which has a background. This is my layer window. Here are my questions. 1. The "mask" that I...

Create shading on object (composited image)

Hello guys, I like chrisdesign's approach. In fact I just read those posts now and was able to attempt a version with a two layers. I do think a two-layer shadow is the most realistic. In chrisdesign's version, however, there is not enough shadow below the car. You would never see shadows only...

Create shading on object (composited image)

Hello Gurus ! With some little time on my hands, I'm having some further fun in PS. I'm compositing an image on which I'm placing a cut-out classic car over a background plate (both pictures I took on 35mm film). I've got to create the shade of the car on its left (sunlight coming from...

Compositing a picture, what approach your recomend

Hey Jeff, Yep, I undertand the eraser tool is distructive. I've taken a PS class on Udemy so understand the fundamentals. I figured, since I'm errasing a second layer in which I have my cloned stuff its not that much of a "risk". Yep, I know all about the rule of thirds. I studied Art History...

Compositing a picture, what approach your recomend

Hey Jeff Thanks for the tips. I tried your approach by using big copied chuncks, it makes it much easier indeed. What I did then was instead on relying on the clone stamp to fixe anomalies, I use the eraser tool to arrase the edges of my copied layers. I ended up deciding to crop my image...

Compositing a picture, what approach your recomend

Hello Polarwoc Thanks for the tip. I see what you are doing. Are you working with a digital pad type Wacom? It’s fairly hard with a mouse. Is there a way to draw some sort of matt/guide/mask that I can align exactly with the fence lines which would keep me in "line" when cloning?

Brushes Another composting / cleaning up question

Hey Jeff, Thanks for the tips. Your method seems to be the easiest. However, I don't exactly have the same options when using the Content-Aware Fill and can't get it to work. This is what I see I tried using the Sampling Brush Tool to indeed sample an area close to the crane but the...

Brushes Another composting / cleaning up question

Hello, Another cleaning up question. I've got this shot of DC taken over a year ago. I'd like to remove some ugly details such as some construction cranes and other elements. When I use the healing brush tool, it’s noticeable that something has been done... How can I blend my healing brush...

Compositing a picture, what approach your recomend

Hello Photoshop Gurus, I haven't been using PS enough to be good at it yet. I've got a picture for which I'd like to remove the ugly sign in the upper right background. Since the sign is on the fence, I'd like to preserve the pattern of the fence. Yet since its soft focus, it makes it more...
