Hi all,

I was wondering if you can help me photoshop some images by adding new textures on and making it look real still? For example, Camelbak has backpacks and they have pictures of the same backpack with a new military pattern on it and it looks real.

Can anyone advise some quick tips? I'm an intermediate photoshop user but this is a new process to me.

Thanks in advance! :)

Thanks for the fast reply!

I did as you said but the results weren't as clean as the Camelbak example. My base color is black and when I used the Divide layer style, the fabic changed color bad and the texture elements were lost. With Camelbak, the new patterned pack looks flawless, I'm wondering if they just chopped up the fabric to fit into different parts of the bag? Do you have any other ideas?

let me see your results and yes I only selected the whole thing to speed things up a better selection will help big time

Just to chip in... was playing with it just now.

You may have to create layer copies of the backpack , esperiment with layer position and play with layer modes, hue amd sat to get the look you may like....

Forgot to say... did mine differently with mask clipping group and blend modes

So the top right box represents the military pattern im trying to recreate on the bag but as you can see, the original color and quality of the original pattern gets lost.

The image I see for the patent is rather small i really can not see it to tell try different l layer modes and don't decrease opacity so much, or maybe even scale the patent to fit the size that you're applying it

Hi dv8,

Thanks for chipping in! I'm specifically trying to get other military camoflages onto the bag. Basically I want to overlay an existing pattern onto the bag but if I multiply/overlay/divide it, the pattern blends too much into the base layer and changes color completely. Is there a way to avoid that?

I'm using this military pattern and I can't figure out which blending mode would overlay the pattern on top but retain original color? If I use multiply or overlay, it blends in but also reveals the brown under color.

If the patent is a solid color no it's not if the patent has spaces between the colors you should be able to see the original color of the backpack

Depending on the texture and colors, you either lower the opacity of the pattern layer or make duplicate of the pack layer , make this the topmost layer and play with the modes to emphasize the backpack details.

iDad... I like lizard skin... lol

Hmm, this sounds like it might be the right solution. Would I have to mask off all the features I want to retain? Zippers, stitching, logo to retain the backpack details or is there another method?

Or you can apply the patent to the upper layer and then erase where it is then put that layer in overlay mode and you'll see the patent stay in place with the erased areas the same as the original

The bill is in the mail...........

Here's one with your texture applied... not perfect but will give you an idea what was applied. You might come up with something better - experiment and deviate from what I did.

ACUPack.jpg

Layer 1 copy - Darken (opacity lowered 30%)
Layer 1 - Softlight
Layer5 (tex layer) - Overlay

The mode change will affect the color. I had to adjust the color balance of pack and texture layers to approximate the original texture color.

You may need to mask the zippers, velcro and tag and in case you want to add a different texture to them (ie. metallic on zip and buckles).

so this is what i ended up with (using another pattern) and its getting there. I'll try out your suggestions dv8 and I think masking will def. work. thanks again guys!
