Many thanks to everyone who took part in challenge 16 Reflections, both shoppers and voters. And a special thankyou to those poor lost souls who thought my effort was worth a vote.

I thought about Challenge 17 and what might be a good subject and decided on Distortion and Perspective. In Photoshop there are many ways in which we can turn a flat and maybe boring image into something nice to look at. Here's a couple of examples:

In this first example the main option used was Liquify

I done the above edit a while ago without ever really knowing how to do it properly. If I can do it, anybody can. Now the young lady above looks lovely in both images but with the help of Photoshops Liquify tool plus a bit of tweaking with maybe the Clone tool we can pretty much do whatever we like to an image. I just know you guys will be able to produce some stunning edits. The link below will be a big help to those of you not familiar with Liquify.

Tip: If you have liquify in your version of Photoshop CS (not certain about early versions) you’ll find it under “Filter” from the options bar. And in later versions of Photoshop Elements Liquify will be found in the Distort menu.

Tip: Be sure to tick the "Advanced Mode" box in the liquify window. This will give access to the Freeze and Thaw mask tools. I wish I had known about those before I done the edit above.
Note: The Freeze and Thaw tools I believe can only be found in Photoshop CS.

Perspective
Another sort of distortion we can do in Photoshop is to "Transform" all or part of an image by going into Transform Mode. The example below shows my mate Andy riding his GSXR 1000 race bike right out of the photo we took at Cadwell Park. To achieve this effect the image frame was distorted to give a 3D perspective. If you look closely at the photo frame you will see that it gets thinner or smaller the further away it is, this is perspective. Check out the link below for a simple little tutorial that shows the basics of "Transforming" part or all of your image. It would be great to see good use of "Perspective" if anybody chooses to base their image on this aspect of distorting pixels.

Distortion via Warping
The example image below shows a simple warp done by just going Filter/Distort/Shear, and adding a shadow. All versions of photoshop have this ability I believe.

Here's a link showing how to warp images in Photoshop.

So to recap... In this challenge we need to demonstrate our skills when Distorting our image, and good Perspective judgement when using the “Transform” tools.

You must post the original image with your entry + any donor images used.

The challenge will end on Sunday 24[SUP]th[/SUP] November at 7pm. (GMT)

Good luck to everyone... Let the battle commence!

Come on you shoppers, I'm not a backside kisser, but Paul has set the standard here. We can all learn from this example...pay close attention to how the ribs of this unfortunate animal have been given definition. We must pay attention to detail.

Unfortunately, Paul and I had the same idea but a different approach.

I was going more for the Rodney Pike caricature look.......I need some more practice!

Anyway, here's Justine Bieber. Everyone knows that he secretly wants to be a woman.

edit: I myself am in no way intolerant, or revolted for that matter, of homosexuality, transgenderism, or transsexualism. My depiction of Justin Bieber as a woman is purely satirical and not meant to demean any manner of sexual orientations and or lifestyles. I apologize if this image offends anyone.

Paul - Yes, Pike is my hero as well!

I also like the works of my old friend Mark Fredrickson, who now works for MAD Magazine, who once only worked with the airbrush, and now uses Photoshop exclusively! I met and got to know Mark from Airbrush Action Getawyas many years ago in my illustration days. Check him out as well!
