Challenge 11: Create Your Own Lighting Effects

egosbar, I was just teasing about the tail! The head-dress came out really beautifully. Great work!

Thanks for posting a tutorial Inkpad. Takes time and dedication.

 Some of you might be wondering about the deadline . . . Saturday, June 8th, Midnight, GMT.

It's in the initial post now.

i really didnt like the tail clare it was just fitting to the task but id rather post something i like and if something bugs me i have to fix it lol

great challenge and ive learned heaps again , makes it so much better when you start to understand a little more then the basics , 5 months of learning probably a lifetime to go

Not sure if this one meets the criteria, but I'll toss it up anyway. I didn't use any tuts on this one.

I created a new document, filled it with black. Added some noise. Then opened up a photo I had and selected the car using the quick selection tool. Took the selection and placed it on to the other document and lowered the opacity way down. Next was a green to transparent gradient, set that to soft light and lowered the opacity down to around 60% and then did the same for the blue to transparent gradient. Finally went back to the background layer and adjusted the levels til I got what I thought looked good.

No specific tuts used. LLLLLoads of experimenting ... no special brusher or patterns or textures. mainly drawn with basic tools.

After seeing some really cool entries, I thought I'd give some negative space work a shot.

Instead of adding lighting affects, I was tasked with muting the majority of the lighting from the original background. I accomplished this via a series of masked adjustment layers (color overlay, de-saturation, photo filter, exposure, levels) and gradients using various blending options. The wolves were added by clipping the original image and setting wolf layer to multiply, then duplicating the same layer and applying hard light (at 40% opacity for central wolf, 10% for the wolves in the trees, 10% linear light for the white wolf on the left). Basic red fills were used for the wolf eyes.

2 more days. I guess we could have done this challenge in two weeks. Here's my entry, not eligible for the voting of course.

The model is from a deviant arts artist: Dancing_on_the_street_11_by_AngelikaZbojenska

I took the ideas from this tutorial: http://photoshoptutorials.ws/photos...nipulation/dazzling-dance-photo-manipulation/

Dont know if this really counts but I have not participated in anything for a while and just made this the other day for someone else but I guess it has lighting effects about 80% of the image is lighting. In PNG format it is 22mbs in size so compressed it to a jpeg hence probably a load of quality loss

And here is the original image I made in cinema 4d and exported it, the rest is photoshop standard tools and brushes

Excluding this image I have added for some weird effect I thought was a good idea at the time somewhere along the lines of making it lol. The Photo I took a while ago so hopefully that still counts.

I don't have the vision to do all the fancy stuff you guys are able to do. I'm happy to just try and do a decent job on the traditional things. Here is my feeble entry into this ring of super images. Pretty much all with regular Photoshop tools. Here is my shot at the lighting.

Very cool chitkaran. I envy your visits to these places, though yeah, you're a little closer to these sites!

Tell me, did you really see those lights?

definitely not feeble mate , nice moon shot , what camera are you using , i just got my fujifilm hs50exr , putting it through its motions now , not a dslr but close as you can get and the best bridge on the market imo at the moment , for 500 its a good buy

fiji next week for 7 days so should get some nice shots there

That's a stock. I have a couple of old Nikon 6 mp DSLRs . A D70 and a D40. They still make great photos though. I want to upgrade but not a money maker right now.

what size lens did you use on the moon pic, my new cam has a 24 - 1000mm , image stablisation lets you shoot 1000mm hand held with good results which is why i bought it , i dont blow many up so no need for bigger files and this takes raw and images you can blow up enough if you want

havent tried the moon on full zoom yet but ill have a go next big moon

i also use perfectly clear plug in , its very very good and 95% of images are enhanced to my taste which is the default , i also learned how to make an action for bulk processing with perfectly clear now and also added a f2 shortcut for instant perfectly clear without going to the screen , does it in 1 second now

my only thought is im not sure i like the frame , ive been back to it a couple of times and still not sure , normally my first thought i end up going with , but its subjective and if you like it it works
