Here's the place to discuss photos in "NO WORDS THREAD 20130330a: Landscape - Mountains".

Both of the pix I just posted were taken about 10 years ago on film, the first off of I-70, a bit west of Denver, the second is of a remote peninsula in western Iceland. I've had good success with both of these images. The 1st is being sold by National Geographic Stock, the 2nd has done well in shows and is hanging in several local doctor's offices.

This photo taken with my Fuji FinePix 550mp, sigh, lol. One of these days, a real camera again, but in the meantime, it serves.

I am having some problem with color profile or color correction in ACR. I need to go back to tutorials. I had an overview by Deke McClelland, but it didn't go into advanced color management. If someone would care to look at my picture and give it a go, (no weird effects though, just straight correction) I'll load the original. I don't know if I have the RAW file and I'm not sure it was taken in RAW. I found out the hard way that when I change the batteries, it goes back to defaults.

Hi Clare - Nice photo. The main problem I see is overexposure -- there are regions of the sky that are completely blown. With this much overexposure, I doubt that you would be able to do anything to help the blown areas of the sky, even if you had saved a RAW file.

As is, it doesn't seem like there are any odd problems with color management. You happen to have set the output to be in Adobe RGB instead of the more common sRGB (for web use), but that's NBD -- 1 click changes that.

Anyway, I changed it into sRGB and tweaked it a bit in ACR, but because I wasn't there when you took that shot, I'm just guessing at what the colors should like. Let me know if it's any closer to how you remember the colors, ignoring, of course, the sky.crooked_arch-tjm01-acr-ps01b_650px_wide-01.jpg

Steve that's what is called an 'original' droste effect almost.

BTW, Steve, I haven't had a chance to say it b4 now, but while your train photo is great, your helicopter photo is just *outstanding*. I could easily see the helo company using that photo in its advertising. Mr. Average Passenger with his P&S or cell phone camera just isn't going to nail the huge depth of field, balancing the interior and exterior brightness levels, manage the vibration from the chopper, etc. Great job!

Tx for your input Tom. The colors are truly less saturated in reality. It's high desert and there is a grey cast to everything, lol. But I hadn't even noticed the Adobe RGB vs sRGB so I'm glad you pointed that out. The original exposure is much lower, but I think the sky is still lost. Already closed down PS for the night so I'll have to take another look tomorrow.

Those are photos to aspire to Steve. Must have been fun to be in the position to take both of them!

Hi Clare - OK on the colors. That's why I inserted the disclaimer. I can count the number of times I've been in that area on one finger of one hand ;-) . It looks absolutely beautiful.

With the weak participation in photographic threads (except by a few staff/regulars), I'm starting to think that while most people don't come to PSG for straight photography, we might get their interest up if we throw in more manipulated photos. Hence the HDR, Topaz Clarify & fake film border on my last posted shot: the mountains of Skyline Drive (in VA) around dusk.

Hi "Fallen" - On a lark, I tweaked the image of the snow covered field that you just posted in the main thread. I processed it in much the same way as I might do if it was my own image. I happened to do it in Photoshop, but if you don't have PS, you could get essentially the same result in lots of other software packages. Since you know what the original looks like, this version may be too exaggerated for you, but lots of people love heavily processed images, so I'm curious to know what you think.

Cheers,

Tom

PS - Where was that taken? It's the type of area that I probably would love.
