Fade half of the Image in Photoshop

Hi,


I am trying to fade exactly half Image and want to keep rest half as normal.
I tried Gradient tool but that does not provide solution. Gradient tool does not even provide uniform distribution.
Please suggest solution for this so that we have one half exactly faded and other half as normal.

Hi Amy and welcome to PSG!

Just place a layer mask on the layer you would like to fade.
Choose your Gradient Tool. Open your gradient editor, set to the foreground to transparent preset. Set to Linear gradient.
Make sure your foreground color is black. (Cmd/Cntrl + D)
Hold the shift key if you want a straight gradient.
Pull a gradient.





edit: I forgot to add that how much gradient you want depends on how you use the Gradient Tool.

If you don't want a faded transition between the two halves....

Add a layer mask to the layer you would like to divide.
Highlight the layer mask by clicking on it, the white bracket will appear.
Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool to create a selection.



Fill with black.

Yup, agreed with Sam... masking is your best bet when it comes to requirements like these

was just searching more over web and found an Image.. How about if we want to provide such fading effect??

Amy, this is not really a fade.

Create a new layer above the original.


Use the Rectangular Marquees Tool to make a selection.


Fill the selection with black. Hit Com/Contrl + D to deselect.


Reduce the layers opacity to your liking.
